for the love of the game
i can safely say that i am one of the few people in the world who follow such a plethora of sports. ah what can i say? the benefits that come with being a third-culture kid..
i profess my first love to be football. yes, football, not soccer.
i vividly remember watching baggio blast his spotkick over the bar in the world cup of 94.
the first match i ever watched involved liverpool, i dont remember who they played, but what i do remember was my fascination with the word 'liverpool' haha
another game i clearly recall watching as a kid was inter vs juventus, juventus lost but inter's play left me fascinated! i dont quite recall how but i came to support leeds united from about 1998- they were a class team then. nigel martyn, harry kewell, eirik bakke, michael bridges, alan smith, mark viduka, olivier dacourt, lee bowyer, johnathan woodgate, rio ferdinand, danny mills, eric harte, gary kelly, lucas radebe, robbie keane.. wow. the year they got to the semifinals of the champions league, i was proud as a lufc supporter could ever be. then the world came crashing around them. i still lvoe them dearly now but life in division one is hard to follow so i have come to love another great team. liverpool fc. you'll never walk alone. they play with a spirit and desire that is unmatched, and their captain and my favourite player steven gerrard is a shining example of passion dedication and talent. i will always love liverpool!
haha but besides football, i have always followed rugby (union, league, and 7s i used to watch 7s when it came to singapore!!), cricket, tennis, cycling (the tour de france), the olympics, formula one (they have it in singapore this year bugger wish i was there to watch it!), aussie rules!, america's cup, and the list goes on i cant even remember what else i follow haha.
i never liked american sports but i guess you get hooked on it after spending a whole year with kids who only know american sports and nothing else. of course, it helps being in boston. american football is fun to watch and play even though it cannot be compared to rugby. basketball's wicked fun, especially with the rampaging celtics this year. the red sox nation up in boston has me hooked on the red sox too! thankfully, i do not follow hockey and NASCAR yet..
here's a list of my favourite teams!
