living in india

after spending six incredible weeks in India, my mind now occasionally drifts to the idea of moving back to this fascinating country. having lived in countries that usually top the mercer's report- countries like japan, singapore, new zealand, and america- i always used think to myself that i do not have what it takes to survive in a country like India. the last six weeks, however, have taught me otherwise-- i lived, breathed, and pooped India, and not only did I just survive, i absolutely loved everything about this enchanting place. back home in DC, i have even suggested to my father the possibility of my parents moving to India following his retirement. i myself know that, at some point in my future, i will be called back to my spiritual home to implement my ideas for health and awareness for those at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

what is there to love about India? i have been sitting here for close to an hour typing and backspacing, typing and backspacing, simply because i cannot put in words my adoration and admiration for this country. i cannot point to something and say 'that is exactly why i like this country' nor can i come up with a list of bullet-points stating my reasons for loving it. there is something about this country that is inexplicable, something that is ineffable. India has a mystical quality to it-- it is a land steeped in history but it is also a land that is looking to the future. India is a land of opposites; a land where the poor and rich live side by side; a land where tradition and culture go hand in hand with technology and couture; a land where the neon lights of the city shine just as bright as the oil lamps of the village. the people are so friendly and helpful, the culture is so captivating and inviting, and the food is so diverse and delicious. i am obviously rambling now but to put it simply, you have to go to India to see it for yourself. the first two weeks may be a little rough, but after that, you will not want to leave- that is exactly what happened to me!

if i am able to express myself articulately, i will come back and edit this post but for now, believe me when i say that India is a truly magical land.
